2019/02/22
South of Beijing the construction of the new Daxing airport is coming to the end. Historical construction during the 4 past years has costed to China about CNY 80 billion (USD 12 billion) has almost finished. Flying tests started at the end of January and will proceed up to mid-March. After this the acceptance process of the airport by the Government Commissions will occur. Airport was projected by the Zaha Hadid London Bureau and is considered to be the hugest airport in the world, consisting of only 1 terminal. The total surface area of the airport is 1.4 mln of square meters, which is equal to 63 Tiananmen squares in Beijing. The surface area of the terminal building is 700 thousand meters. From a bird’s eye view terminal looks like a golden star or a hand with five fingers-beams which are stretching from the center to the boarding gates. Nevertheless, the grand construction is very compact – to reach the furthest boarding gate passengers will need not more than only 8 minutes. The roof surface equals to 25 football fields, and to cover it 12800 glass plates were used, 8000 of which have a unique shape. Building the airport new Chinese earthquake-proof technologies were used. It is stated that airport building can stand earthquake’s magnitude of 8. The airport capacity is estimated as 100 mln passengers per year and 800 thousand of take offs/landings. The capacity of airport until 2025 is planned to reach 72 mln of passengers per year. Using high speed trains passengers can reach Tianjin and Tangshan just in one hour, Shijiazhuang and Jingan in 2 hrs and it takes 3 hrs to get to in Taiyuan, Zhengzhou and Shenyang.
