November 11 Sales in China to Cut the Record of the Previous Year

This year 11.11 sales brought in RMB 373.3 billion (USD 53.7 billion) as China’s e-commerce giants Alibaba and JD.com saw orders soar over last year, Alibaba with RMB 213.5 billion (USD 30.8 billion) increasing last year numbers by 27 %. Cainiao – logistics arm of Alibaba processed billion orders for delivery. The main driver of this year was imported fresh food purchases which doubled over last year, with customers buying more than 29,500 tons of items such as meat, vegetables, fruit, seafood, including some 12 tons of live Canadian lobsters among other, according to JD.com. Consumer electronics, home furnishings and appliances were popular again this year, as well as were other consumer electronics. Fashion and in particular, personal care products continue to grow sharply this year. E-commerce platforms noticed a trend of Chinese customers to pay more for imported branded goods. Daniel Zhang, CEO of Alibaba Group., said “Today we witnessed the strength and rise of China’s consumption economy and consumers’ continued pursuit to upgrade their everyday lifestyles.” E-commerce export trading platform Aliexpress, which is a part of Alibaba group, traditionally took part in the world’s largest shopping event – China’s 11.11 or Singles Day. This year also saw online shopping platform, Lazada participating for the first time in 11.11 as a part of the Alibaba ecosystem, bringing sales to the markets of SEA. ATC China Director General Alexey Maltsev comments: “It has been a couple of years already when we meet 11.11. sales in the state of full readiness. Being a logistic partner of Alibaba through working with its logistic operator Cainiao we participate in logistics chains on delivery of orders from Chinese online shops to Russian consignees. This year we are getting ready to process about 12 million of parcels only as the result of 11.11 sales, being a huge increase over the last year. The parcels will be delivered through post and express channels. To provide on time handling and shipment of the parcels it is important for us to work in close cooperation with the first mile operators, sorting centres, ATC's transit hubs in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong and the carriers. To accomplish this, we accumulate inner resources of our company and pay close attention to every detail.”
